News from the Tel Aviv Wind Quintet -
April 2018
Dear friends,
Happy independence day!
Proud to present: Opus 2
After long months of anticipation we are happy and excited to launch our new album, LIVE!
As the title implies this album is based on a concert we played in the Israel Conservatory in Tel Aviv with pianist Yaron Kohlberg exactly one year ago.
Thanks to the excellent recording of Yaron Aldema it is possible to recapture the experience of a live performance in a packed hall.
The CD includes wonderful pieces by Mozart, Rossini, Richard Strauss, Weill & Berio,

Launching the album across Israel
Our present concert tour will be dedicated to LIVE’s launching celebrations. We will host a special guest from Brazil - pianist Gustavo Carvalho, in his first visit to Israel. Together we are going to perform across Israel, from kibbutz Magen in the south all the way to kibbutz Kfar-Blum in the north, including concerts in Jerusalem, Haifa, Ra’anana and more. Mozart’s splendid piano concerto number 23 in an interesting arrangement will stand in the core of the program, along with ‘Acquarello’ - an Israeli premiere of a brazilian piece by Sergio Rodrigo.
The program also includes Poulenc’s celebrated Sextet and a taste of the album with Weill’s popular songs from the Threepenny Opera. A renewed premiere of Prelude and Fugue by Shabtai Petrushka (one of the main figures in the first generation of the artistic music in Israel) will mark Israel’s 70th anniversary celebrations. In this tour as well we will give special attention to the next generation of musicians. We will hold Masterclasses for young wind players before our concerts in Ma’alot and Kfar-Blum.
Here are some impressions from the intense day we spent in the Jerusalem Music Centre a couple of weeks ago, together with the young participants of the JMC's Outstanding Players Program. We coached them and had a joint performance of pieces by Mozart, Gounod and Bach for extended wind ensembles.

To conclude our tour we will collaborate once again with the Ronen Foundation in a festive concert on May 14th at 20:30 in the Assia Auditorium of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. It is another opportunity for us to play with the young and talented scholarship recipients of the foundation, flautist Sagit Zur and horn player Bar Zemach. It is also a chance for us to thank the foundation for its continuous and generous support.

Close Encounters with TAWQ members
An unusual encounter with contemporary bassoon music will take place during the ContComp conference in the Haifa University on May 15th at 10:00. Towards the release of his solo album, ANIMATE, our bassoon player Nadav will present new compositions for the instrument, including several pieces written especially for him. Fantasies, a musical-culinary journey is coming to Israel for two shows on May 11th and 12th. Our flautist Roy invites you to try and imagine what would music taste like. This evening focuses on the different senses that unite together into one experience: a vegan dinner with 7 courses - each inspired and accompanied by a Telemann fantasie for baroque flute that corresponds with it. All of that while blindfolded... For details click on the photo:
