Germany tour 2023

Updated: Jun 23, 2023

Dear friends,

Concert season 2022-2023 has reached the finish line. We will conclude it with two concerts in Germany next week - in Berlin and in Frankfurt.

Berlin based Israeli pianist Na'aman Wagner will join us in the Jewish Museum in Berlin for a 'Bach to Jazz' concert with works by Francaix, Bach, Schulhoff, Calvin, Weill and Gershwin.

In Frankfurt we will perform in the beautiful 'Schweizer 5', an evening with music by Haydn, Zemlinsky, Bach, Schulhoff, Hindemith, Calvin and Weill, as well as two Israeli songs arranged by Yuval Shapiro.

All details can be found in the brochure below and in the link:

Design: Anat Nazarathy

Here is the main piece in our Berlin concert - an arrangement of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue (recorded in December 2018 with Aviram Reichert):

A farewell to Mordechai Rechtman

This month we lost Mr. Mordechai Rechtman with great sorrow and sadness. Rechtman, 97 at his death, was an instructor and pedagogue that raised generations of wonderful musicians. He was a one of a kind bassoonist and an exceptional arranger. His excellent arrangements for various ensembles are often played all over the world.

In recent years we were often in touch with him and were always surprised from his clear mind and great hearing considering his age. His curiosity and constant search for more creativity was admiriable.

Recently, we premiered his arrangement of Brahms' masterpiece, "Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel". Mordechai couldn't attend the performance due to a medical procedure so we gathered at his house and played it for him. It was the last time we saw him, and gladly it was a very optimistic and powerful moment.

May his memory be a blessing.

We wish you all a pleasant summer!

See you next season,

Members of the Tel Aviv Wind Quintet
